2.5. Microsoft Outlook Instructions for Secure Email

You only need to follow these instructions once per Microsoft Outlook Mail Account (often the equivalent of an email address / box) per machine (personal computer).

From within Microsoft Outlook, click on Tools, E-Mail Accounts.

Select "View or change Existing e-mail accounts", and click on Next.

Select the account you wish to change, and click on the "Change" button.

Click on the "More Settings" button.

Click on the "Advanced" Tab.

Check both "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" boxes.

Enter 465 for the "Outgoing server (SMTP)" and verify the "Incoming server (POP3)" is set to 995.

Click on Ok.

Click on Test Account Settings.

You should see "completed" and green check marks for each action.  If there are any failures, make sure of the following:

  1. Your user name is correct.
  2. Your password is correct.
  3. Your incoming and outgoing mail server is mail period your domain name.

IMPORTANT:  If you are using Microsoft Outlook 2000 or any version older than XP, the "Test Account Settings" may show failures on outgoing email.  Make sure all settings are correct; you can ignore this error message.

Click on Close.

Click on Next.

Click on Finish.

You are now set.
